My Very First Collection and the Series that Fell into Files.

This week was the ending of what is known as Mardi Gras season. It is a great collection of a series of balls and parades, broken into varies themes in which each would boost their own King and Queen. Come Wednesday morning, every piece of regalia, favorite bead necklace, and ball memorabilia will be stored to safeguard the memories that at attached to every item. Ready to access at a moments notice should anyone be wanting to learn about a particle parade, ball, or past ‘royalty’.

With that being the case, Saint Stanislaus, as most schools in the south, was closed for some or all the week. That led to me being sent home with a box of school publications to process as well as several acquisition sheets so that the information form each could be entered on the location spreadsheet. This lead to a nice refresher of the “Five levels of Arrangement” and the topic of when to and when not to follow original order.

The box consisted of several booklets from various years of the school’s summer camp, a few booklets with history, and a couple of books on what the school has to offer. This collection is a compilation of what has been found on the shelves or donated over time. These items do not have any acquisition forms or other information as to where or when they were obtain and it was decided that they will be arranged and catalog under ‘school publications’. However, the various types of booklets would lead to an interesting challenge when separating a few pieces, but it was an interesting challenge.

Update to above:

Having separated the items (booklets) within the box, I found the thought of cataloging and creating finding aids, crossing my mind. The Provenance, the title, and most importantly, how the historical context of each piece would lend itself to creating the scope and content note of the finding aid. Anyways...the next step is to catalog each piece and to begin creating both a physical and an electronic Finding Aid.  I am glad I still have my lecture notes. :)
